Life as a Dental Student
بِسْمِ اللّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيْمِ
السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ
First of all, I really want to write about this a long time ago. But I never have enough time to do so.
Well, I just finished my first year as a dental student at UiTM officially on July 21, 2017. A bit late because I had to finish my project before I can enjoy my holiday haha. So baru first year, not so much experience but experienced enough to write about it 😏. So, here it is.
First Semester
There is nothing interesting to talk about during first semester since we just attended lectures from 8am-6pm EVERYDAY! hahahaha... Sometimes on thursday we finished at 7pm because ada kelas PBSM. Yeah PBSM... extra co-curriculum activities for dental student. Nasib baik tak ada kawad 😜.
Apa benda yang kitorang belajar dari 8pagi - 6petang??? Haaa... meh nak cerita.
So basically we have:
- Basic Medical Science (BMS) & Oral Science
- TITAS
- English
- Computer Science
- Patient Care & Professional Development (PCPD)
Basic Medical Science (BMS) & Oral Science
I want to talk about BMS only because it is the most important subject. We learn same as medical student because we are treating patient which come from different background & medical history. We are not only learn about oral cavity, teeth and so on. So basically we have 9 modules:
- General Module (GM)
- Musculoskeletal Module (MSK)
- Haemopoietic & Lymphoid Module (H&L)
- Cardiovascular Module (CVS)
- Respiratory Module (RESP)
- Gastrointestinal Module (GIT)
- Endocrine & Metabolism Module (E&M)
- Genito-Urinary System Module (GUS)
- Central Nervous System Module (CNS)
Each of the module consists of anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, microbiology, pathology, pharmacology & oral science. At the end of every module, we have progress test (PT) untuk nilai pemahaman kita berkaitan module tu.
During first semester we only learned GM, MSK and H&L. At first, sangatlah culture shock sebab banyak giler topik nak kene baca since our exam is integrated.7 subjects; anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, microbiology, pathology, pharmacology & oral science are combined into one(1) paper😱. But don't worry, you'll get used to it. The most important things is time management & study planning.
UiTM Health Campus of Sungai Buloh, Selangor.
Enough about study. Let's talk about UiTM Campus of Sungai Buloh. This campus only have two faculties which are Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Dentistry.

I really like this place because the environment is so wow! Rasa sejuk & berangin (sebab dekat dengan bukit), permandangan serious cantik giler ada pokok-pokok, bunga-bunga & breathtaking view lah senang citer. I live in RC2. Kolej dekat sini macam apartment, consist of 5 rooms, pantry, 3 toilets, 3 showers & acah-acah living room which ada meja besar untuk makan or study ramai-ramai
This is my room masa mula-mula datang |
After decoration 😏 |
Meja study |
Usually kitorang jalan kaki je pergi ke kelas unless you bawa motor or kereta. But kereta only dibenarkan untuk student year 3 & above je. Pfft, bersenamlah sikit pepagi dengan berjalan kaki, tak sampai 10 minit pon ke fakulti unless you walk like kura-kura or siput.
Inilah pemandangan yang hari-hari kami selalu tengok. cantik kan.. |
Nothing much to talk about during first semester. Let's move on to second semester.
Second Semester
A lot of interesting things happened during second semester except for having classes from 8am-6pm hahaha... The new thing is we already start to learn dental's subject like Prosthodontic and Operative Dentistry. Of course we still learned BMS; CVS and RESP, English, Sejarah Malaysia & Mandarin (new) for this second semester. We also started to enter simulation lab which is one of the challenging part of being dental student because we had to do a lot of projects. Serious banyak gila dugaan, cabaran, rasa kesian dan macam-macam segala perasaan yang ada,
Prosthodontics is the branch of dentistry concerned with the design, manufacture, and fitting of artificial replacements for teeth and other parts of the mouth. For example, denture (gigi palsu). Hahaha usually kita nampak yang dah siap punya. Hmm, sebenarnya banyak giler step-step dia. Hahaha.. However it is so interesting. You belajar macam mana nak ambil impression dalam mulut patient, susun gigi, masak gigi dan sebagainya. Tak nak cerita step-step dia, nak tunjuk hasilnya je... TADA!

Inilah hasil titik peluh & ukiran tangan saya sendiri. Nak masuk dentistry ni tangan kene berseni. |
Operative Dentistry is the area of dentistry that focuses on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases or trauma to teeth. treatment focuses primarily on restoring teeth from dental caries (tooth decay), trauma, and tooth wear. Usually orang panggil tampalan. There are 21 projects for this subject. Banyakkan! hahaha but serious menarik giler... Mula-mula nak pasang rubber dam tu serious macam leceh giler. Tapi lama-kelamaan macam petik jari je. hahahaha You also learn how to prepare a cavity on the teeth (This is the most challenging part. If salah buat, *redo lah jawabnya...)

This is one of my project on 36; Amalgam restoration & also 35; composite restoration |
So itulah antara cerita yang dapat dikongsikan. Study-study jugak, don't forget to enjoy your life. This is a video of my life as a first year dental student. Enjoy!
Ok so I think thats all I have got here. Bye
Assalamualaikum, thank you for your sharing. I just got an offer letter to this faculty, what do i need to prepare before entering this college? I've read somewhere that we need to collect some 'teeth'(i dont remember the exact word) from any dental clinics before registering at campus. Is it true?
ReplyDeleteHye! I am one of the uitm dental student! Congrats on ur result btw! And yes, u do need to collect teeth from the any dental clinics because u will be needed to use it start from the sem 2.. U need to collect it from more than one clinics as much as possible because trust me, it won't be enough since u have to use it until year 5.. U can leave the small jar to any government clinics and claim it back after few months..
DeleteHi assalamualaikum, i am an asasi student and i just got my sem 1 final results. Is it acceptable to enter dentistry uitm if I get 3.56 for my png ? I know that i need to score 3.5 and above to enter the interview but my result is so atas pagar hehe.. so, is there people/friends of yours there that has been accepted to uitm dentistry with results like me? Thank you for sharing in advance.
ReplyDeleteHi Assalaualaikum, can i ask the fees? I know that uitm offered great courses and facilities with cheap fee but how cheap it is? Is it below than 2k/sem? Also can you make a new blog regarding the interview FAQs? Sorry for being so demanding but i just got my sem 1 final result and it's quite unbelievable. So im gambling between medicine and dentistry and i dont wanna make a choice that will make me regret in the future. Im into both of these professions. Do you by any chance know someone who were just like me then? Sorry for asking a lot T^T
